Gary grew up on a farm between two small towns -- Herman and Hoffman -- in West Central Minnesota. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND. Karen was raised in Minneapolis and met Gary while attending Concordia.

They were married in 1974. Karen taught business education in Blooming Prarie for 3 1/2 years until oldest son Brian was born in March, 1978. Twins Krist and Eric were born just two years later. Raising our kids has been a vitally important and fulfilling part of our lives.

Karen slowly became involved in the business. She covered the phone, filled out paperwork, and tended the little ones while Gary was out trying to drum up business. Gradually her business training background enabled her to contribute more and more to our agency. Her prompt, friendly, caring customer service habits make her the key not only to our excellent customer retention rate, but also to our entire agency operation.

We're so thankful for the Lord's faithfulness over the years. We started with 0 customers and as virtually unknown newcomers to Owatonna in 1982 and now are blessed to have one of the larger American National agencies in Minnesota. We're very appreciative of the loyalty of so many long-time customers who have enabled us to build our customer base slowly but steadily.

In May of 1986 we moved to our present office across from the Eagles Club at 140 E. Rose St.
